Debate: Without Cash Transfers, Preventing HIV in Adolescents Will Fail

In recent years, cash transfers have become a widely used policy strategy to achieve social protection and development goals in a number of different domains.

Evidence has shown them to have a positive impact on monetary poverty, education, health and nutrition, productivity and employment.

But can they be further utilized to prevent HIV acquisition in adolescents?

In this lively debate, hear the arguments for and against the proposition, join the live Q & A, and cast your vote!

Speaker for the Proposition

Tracey Naledi, MBChB, FCPHM.
University of Cape Town,
South Africa

Speaker Against the Proposition

Nadia Sam-Agudu, MD, CTropMed.
University of Maryland School of Medicine / Institute of Human Virology Nigeria, United States / Nigeria

Welcome Reception | 5 October

We are very happy to announce that the welcome reception on the evening of the first day is being organized by Africa Realizing the End of AIDS in Children and Young People (Africa REACH)

Africa REACH is an African-led and focused effort intended to unify and amplify strong political and cultural forces to motivate action to fulfil the promise of an AIDS-free generation.   With 90% of all children living with HIV globally located in Africa, there is a need to focus attention on eliminating mother-to-child transmission (EMTCT) of HIV which may be the best opportunity to prove that it is possible to “turn off the tap” of new HIV infections. Fulfilling the promise of EMTCT will be a seismic epidemiological victory with its impact felt well beyond African borders.

The Africa REACH secretariat is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
